The Payal Khandwala project is a retail and studio space designed around the logic of the label itself — clothes made with an attention to drape, texture, and material that rewards close looking. The space is designed to reward the same kind of attention: surfaces that are legible at distance but reveal themselves slowly, and a sequence of rooms that unfolds at the pace of someone who is genuinely browsing rather than being sold to.
The palette is deliberately quiet — natural plaster, aged timber, and stone — so that the clothes, in their range of earthy and unexpected colour, read with the clarity they deserve. Light is soft and directional, handled to minimise shadow where display is concerned and to create warmth where the experience is more lounge than shop floor.
The project is an exercise in restraint in service of another person's work — which is, in some ways, the purest form of the practice.
